Robotics got punished today, but the weekly chart says buy the dip

The Robotics and Autonomy theme dropped 4% in a single day, making it the worst performer in the AI universe. But zoom out one week and it's still up 3.73%. The selloff is noise. The trend is intact.

Today's robotics wipeout looks scary on the surface. The Robotics and Autonomy theme, which covers companies building industrial robots, autonomous vehicles, and surgical systems, fell 4.16% in one day. $ISRG, Intuitive Surgical (the maker of the da Vinci robotic surgery system), led the carnage with a 14.15% drop after its Q2 earnings print. $RBOT, a pure-play robotics ETF, fell 11.43%.

Here is what the one-day number buries: both $RBOT and the broader robotics theme are still solidly positive on the week, up 17.65% and 3.73% respectively. A single earnings reaction dragged the daily read into the red. The underlying bid for the theme never left.

The smarter funds see this. Lone Pine Capital, a long-short hedge fund (a fund that bets on both rising and falling stocks) run by Steve Mandel, holds $VST, a power company feeding AI infrastructure, as its top position. That is the same infrastructure thesis that robotics runs on. Big, patient money is not running from the machines. It is waiting out the noise.

If today's drop shakes out weak hands, the weekly trend reasserts fast. If it doesn't, the $ISRG print is a one-stock story, not a theme collapse.

*A 4% daily drawdown in a theme still up 3.73% on the week is not a crack in the thesis; it is the tax you pay for getting in before the crowd.*
