Quantum is breaking down while everything else in AI holds up

The quantum computing theme just shed nearly 4% in a single day and 8% over the week, while AI compute and power quietly pushed higher. This is the market sending a clear message about what is real right now.

Quantum computing stocks are getting hit hard. The theme as a whole is down 3.99% today and 8.26% over the past week. $QUBT dropped 5.36% today, and $QBTS is down 33.57% over the week. That is not a dip. That is a repricing of the entire story.

Meanwhile, look at what is holding. AI Compute, the theme covering chips and the hardware that trains AI models, is up 1.08% today and 2.39% on the week. Power Generation, the infrastructure needed to run all those data centers, is up 0.42% today and 2.00% on the week. The market is not fleeing tech. It is getting selective.

The smart funds seem to agree with this split. Altimeter Capital, Brad Gerstner's growth fund, holds $NVDA as its single biggest position at 28.6%. Lone Pine Capital, Steve Mandel's long-short equity firm, owns $VST, a power company, as its top holding at 7.4%. Nobody in the top-fund data has meaningful quantum exposure.

The market is not saying AI is over. It is saying: show me something that works today, not in ten years.

*Quantum was the trade for believers in a distant future; what the funds are actually holding tells you the real money has always been in the infrastructure powering AI right now.*
